Danny Sparks

Danny Sparks

Chief Executive Officer

Danny began his real estate career in 2002 at KB home, one of the nation’s largest public home building companies. As a recent college graduate, KB home proved to be an ideal training ground. Danny enjoyed working hard during the heart of the US residential real estate boom in various roles including construction superintendent, project manager, and land acquisition associate. Danny still views his four-year experience at KB home as a true building block for the rest of his career.

In 2006 Danny joined hearthstone advisors, an institutional equity advisor to several of the nation’s largest pension funds. As a VP of investment management, Danny oversaw the underwriting and asset management of projects across the country that totaled more than $500MM in equity. During the eight years that Danny worked at hearthstone he grew into leadership roles and greatly expanded his range of experience on the investor side of real estate development.

In 2013 Danny joined mountain real estate capital (MREC), an advisor to private equity real estate funds. As regional director of asset management, Danny oversaw underwriting and asset management for MREC’s west coast office. During the five years that Danny worked at MREC he was pivotal in growing MREC’s west coast footprint, served in leadership roles, and helped develop best-in-class underwriting, asset management, and reporting procedures.

Recognizing a need in the institutional real estate sector for tailored and nimble asset management, underwriting, and investment services, Danny formed Harvest Real Estate Services in January 2018.

Danny graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, with a degree in city and regional planning and with a minor in real property development. He enjoys an active lifestyle in San Diego with his wife and two rambunctious boys.

Leif Czaplewski

Leif Czaplewski

Chief Operating Officer

With a career spanning 2 decades in private equity and various asset classes, Leif brings a diverse and nuanced approach to real estate investment. Leif directs the firm’s operations, asset management and underwriting initiatives amongst other advisory services. Prior to joining Harvest, Leif spent 14 years at Värde Partners, a leading global alternative investment manager. Most recently Leif served at Värde as a Director, leading the operations, valuation, and FP&A for the firm's US real estate equity and private debt business.

Leif graduated from the University of North Dakota with a degree in financial management.

Kevin Mast

Kevin Mast

Chief Financial Officer

Kevin has more than 40 years of in-depth financial experience in both the public and private accounting sectors and currently serves as the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Harvest Capital and Harvest Real Estate Services.

Kevin was previously the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Mountain Funding, a mezzanine real estate lender, and Mountain Real Estate Capital, an equity investor in residential joint ventures with land developers and homebuilders. Kevin implemented the systems, controls and infrastructure required to create a successful major real estate investment platform which originated over $1.0 Billion in investments, consisting of 79 closed deals and more than 250 legal entities.

Prior to joining Mountain, Kevin served as the Senior Vice President of finance for The South Financial Group, a $15-billion bank holding company with locations in the Carolinas and Florida. Mast’s previous experience also includes serving as a Senior Audit Manager with Ernst & Young in Tulsa, Oklahoma, one of the four largest accounting firms in the world.  Mast also served as the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Citizen’s Bank & Trust in Wichita, Kansas until its sale in 1991 and as the Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer for Emergent Business Capital, an SBA Lending business, in Greenville, South Carolina. Mast earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Kansas State University in 1982. He is a member of the North Carolina Association of CPA’s, the South Carolina Association of CPAs and the American Institute of CPAs.

Jim Loyd

Director of Business Development

Jim is Harvest Capital’s Director of Business Development with overwatch responsibility for new originations and client relationship management. Jim began his career in residential real estate finance with Bank of America in Washington, D.C. before returning to his hometown of Charlotte, NC. During his 20 plus years of industry experience, he has held various originations, underwriting, distressed asset advisory and business development roles for Bank OZK, Housing Capital Company (US Bank) and other private lending firms. Jim has national experience in primary residential markets with an emphasis in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast. His residential asset class background includes land entitlement, acquisition and development, production homebuilding, custom homebuilding, infill project development and built-for-rent transactions.

Jim holds a BA in Economics from The University of North Carolina and an NC Real Estate Broker’s License.

Andrew Jett

Andrew Jett

Director of Underwriting and Asset Management

Andrew oversees loan underwriting and analysis as well as the setup of new real estate projects in addition to maintenance and monitoring of existing projects. Andrew is a CPA, with more than a decade of experience in the real estate finance industry. His primary responsibilities have included preparing and maintaining tax financials, overseeing treasury functions, and preparing/reviewing both corporate and project financial statements and trial balances.

Andrew started his career in public accounting working at PWC with high-net-worth individuals, then working at Langford de Kock LLP, a public accounting firm.

Andrew graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with Undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Economics, and thereafter, earning a Master of Accounting degree also from UNC-CH. He is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, as well as the North Carolina Association of CPAs.

Ryan Moser

Financial Controller

Ryan joined Harvest Capital as Controller with more than ten years of experience in the real estate industry.  Before joining Harvest, Ryan served as the project controller/investment analyst for EYA, a leading real estate developer of urban townhomes and multifamily properties located in the Washington DC Metro area. Ryan began at EYA as a project accountant, responsible for all accounting and financing aspects on active development and vertical construction projects.  Having shared time in the firm’s land acquisition department as an investment analyst where he oversaw all the underwriting of new deals, Ryan brings additional expertise in business system creation and financial modeling.

Ryan started his career in public accounting with Deloitte in New York City servicing broker dealers and private equity clients.  He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy from LaGrange College and a Master’s in Accountancy from Wake Forest University and holds a CPA.

Joe Anfuso

Vice President, Investment Manager

Joe Anfuso joined Harvest Capital in 2023 as Vice President where he is focused on managing the firms existing loan portfolio as well as all aspects of new deal originations and due diligence activities.

Joe has over 18 years of experience in real estate investment, development, and management during his career. Prior to joining Harvest, Joe was the Director of Asset Management for Tower 16 Capital Partners, where his responsibilities included operational oversight and investment management of the company’s 6,000-unit value-add multifamily portfolio. Prior to Tower 16, Joe worked for over 7 years at Presidio Residential Capital, a real estate private equity firm located in San Diego, CA. where he led all new debt and equity originations.

Joe graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from Northern Arizona University and a Master’s in Real Estate degree from the University of San Diego.

Paul Williams

Vice President, Investment Manager

Paul has worked in the real estate finance industry for over eight years with experience in real estate investment, development, and asset management. Prior to joining Harvest, Paul worked at Bank OZK holding numerous roles within the Middle Market Commercial Real Estate group, most recently as the VP of Originations where he helped lead the origination and structuring of commercial construction loans across the southeastern United States. Prior to that, Paul worked as an Asset Manager where he oversaw $100m+ of real estate debt products.

Paul graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management with a minor in Supply Chain Management from Appalachian State University and has a Master’s in Real Estate Finance and Development from the University of North Carolina Charlotte.

David McCuiston

Vice President, Investment Manager

With a career spanning over a decade, David has been instrumental in driving numerous successful real estate transactions; totaling over $2 billion. David began his career as an Investment Properties Associate at CBRE in New York City, honing his skills in marketing and executing real estate transactions. His tenure at Crescent Communities in Charlotte saw him rise to the position of Finance and Capital Markets Associate, where he played a pivotal role in shaping the company's national investment strategy and assisting raising debt and equity for pipeline projects. At Artesia Real Estate, David served as Vice President of Investments, leading a southeast regional deal team to formulate investment strategies, manage portfolios, and source new opportunities.

David attended Cornell University, where he studied urban planning and real estate while competing on the track team as a middle-distance runner.

Rachel Berg

Associate Director, Accounting

Rachel has more than 20 years of office experience, with particular emphasis on staff accounting responsibilities, accounts payable processes, and Office Manager responsibilities.   

She has more than 12 years of experience in the real estate investment and lending business where her responsibilities include various roles in loan servicing, including posting borrower payments, reviewing and recording loan advances, sending monthly borrower interest statements, tracking and updating borrower insurance information, property tax payments, and tracking and updating borrower financial statements and compliance certificates.

Kilie West

Paralegal/Closing Coordinator

Kilie has nearly 15 years of experience working as a legal professional building a career with a primary focus on real estate lending. She joined the team at Harvest Capital as a Paralegal/Closing Coordinator where she continues to leverage her passion for helping parties work through the closing process to facilitate smooth transactions. Her tenure in the legal field has provided her with a strong attention to detail and the ability to multitask and communicate effectively.  

Kilie graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in legal studies from Washburn University and continued her education to complete a Bachelor’s degree in psychology from Fort Hays State University. Kilie has been a commissioned North Carolina Notary Public since 2017.

Cole Fender

Senior Operations Analyst

Cole joined Harvest Capital as a Senior Analyst in 2024 supporting the Underwriting and Asset Management teams in financial modeling and market research. Additionally, Cole brings a focus to data analysis, leveraging Harvest’s project management systems and other visualization tools to empower senior leadership and partners with strategic insights regarding both current and future state opportunities and trends.

Previously, Cole was with Fifth Third Bank as a Real Estate Analyst, operating as part of both Underwriting and Portfolio Management teams. During that time, he supported Borrower relationships totaling roughly $1.0 Billion in exposure across a national footprint, spanning all major commercial asset classes.

Cole graduated from the University of South Carolina holding degrees in Management and Marketing, with a specialization in Data Analytics.
